Golden Oldies aka The GODs

In 2002 a group of Cougar’s dads got together and formed the GODs (Golden Oldie Dads).

The aim of our team is consistent with the philosophy of Golden Oldies rugby, that being to provide “fun, friendship and fraternity” for those over the age of 35 who have “retired” from rugby or who enjoy playing in a “not-too-serious” manner. This has tapped a profound level of enthusiasm within the club and we now have over 30 registered players.

Golden Oldies rugby is played in a non-competitive manner where the emphasis is very much on having fun rather than winning. In every game we do this with great success. Toasting the other opposition before the game is tradition with Golden Oldies rugby and befitting our name, we adopted Cougar bourbon as our team’s pre-game drink. It certainly gets the body going, even on the rainy days.

We are also very proud of the GODs ode which we recite with gusto at all matches. Rugby is not just about the players and our loyal band of supporters; families and friends who attend our games always join in to enjoy the occasion. New players are always welcome and if the comradery of rugby still appeals then please join in. You won't regret it.

Game scheduled for Sunday 24th - postponed due to weather

May 18th 2009

A further update from Tom at Dee Why who says that Dee Why have good numbers wanting to play so if we supplement with players from GODs and Originals, even the better but the good news doesn't stop there. Dee Why has organised a bus to take us from the Time & Tide to Chatswood & return. Cost is $20 per head including a refreshment or two, with the bus leaving from the T&T at 10:30am.

Dee Why are having a training run at James Morgan on Saturday at 3:00pm if anyone wants to join in as well.

Guys,

It's time for our next match against long time opponents, the Gordon Stags next Sunday 24th May on the hallowed turf of Chatswood oval.

This is always a great day, a fine game of rugby followed by a bite to eat and a couple of cold refreshments.

We need to be there by 11:45 to get organised for a 12:30pm kick-off.

Please confirm your attendance.

GODfather.

May 4th 2009

We had a great start to the season on Saturday, fielding virtually a full team of enthusiastic players comprised of roughly equal numbers of GODs and original Cougars. Fantastic to see the GODs in action once again with the game against Dee Why being played in exactly the right spirit.

Slowly we're welcoming back a few old GODs like Craig Busch combined with some virgins from the junior club such as Chris Hunt. After the match a few refreshments on the sideline were very enjoyable as were a few beers at the Time and Tide as the post match debrief concluded. After that everyone adjourned home in one piece - no injuries to report at all.

As far as away games go, we've decided to pitch in the Dee Why guys to travel to and compete at away games as a composite side. Golden Oldies is dependent upon sides playing each other on a home and away basis each 2 years. To remain viable we have to expect to travel to away homes so that teams will reciprocate and play us at Griffith and/or James Morgan.
Upcoming schedule is as follows:

Sunday May 10th Game of touch James Morgan 9:30am.

Next game Sunday May 24th v Gordon at Chatswood (a new team from Killara will also be there). ** Please lock this into your diary NOW.

Our scheduled matches to date are:
Gordon away at Chatswood Oval Sunday 24th May - Postponed
StillBillies Galah Day Sunday 12th July - rained out
Engadine away Sunday 26th July

rgds
GODfather.
